How to Resole Birkenstocks? (Step by Step Guide)
In this part of our article, we will show you how to resole Birkenstocks step by step.
Step 1: Cleaning the Upper Straps
First, you need to clean the upper straps of your Birkenstock shoes properly before continuing to the next step. To do that, pour some cleaner into a bowl and take the brush. With the help of these, start cleaning the shoe straps slowly.

Please do not rub it too much with the brush as it may harm the straps. However, you can use soft brushes too to avoid any kind of damage. In addition, you need to keep in mind that there can be some old, dried glue there beside the straps. Clean those, too, with the help of a screwdriver. After doing all these, take a paper towel and wipe the straps.
Step 2: Disassemble the Shoe
Now, you need to disassemble your old pair of Birkenstock shoes to separate the sole and footbed. This part is a bit tricky as you need to be careful enough to peel off the sole of the shoe. Some Birkenstock soles can be separated easily as the glue beneath them gets dried after a certain time of use.
On the other hand, a few soles are hard to peel off, but you can do it too by using proper tools and methods. Using a small knife and screwdriver, you can remove the old sole first and then separate the straps from the footbed respectively.
Make sure the straps are being removed with care. Any harm to the straps may lead you to more hassles. Another important point is, before detaching the old footbed, draw some marks exactly where the shoe straps were located. That will help you put the straps perfectly on the new Birkenstock cork.
However, in this stage, you can dye your straps if you need. That will visibly give it a new look.

Step 3: Glue the Upper Straps to Footbed
This is the third step of our guide regarding how to resole Birkenstocks. In this part, you need to glue the upper straps to the new pair of Birkenstock cork. In those corks, already the lines are given where the shoe straps need to be placed. Do not worry if it’s not given as in the past step; what you need to do to place the straps correctly is already stated.
Now, put some glue on the inside of the strips where the old glue was. You must wear gloves at this stage as you, of course, don’t want your hands to get sticky! After putting sufficient glue on the straps’ sides, take a break of 15 minutes because the glue needs to be a bit dry before pressing the straps on the Birkenstock corks.
Right after 15 minutes, please place the straps carefully and press them onto the cork. This step is over, and you, of course, will start having goose-bumps as you almost have resoled your favorite pair of Birkenstock!

Step 4: Glue Soles
This part is quite easier as you only need to put glue under the cork to place the Birkenstock sole. Remember to put some glue on the sides of the toe piece as it will make it more sustainable.
Then, place an adequate amount of glue all over the cork so that it can grab the sole perfectly. Now, take the sole and glue it too. Place the cork and sole separately for a couple of minutes, and then unite them together.
Step 5: Assemble and trim
Finally, this is the last step to resolve your Birkenstock pair. After attaching the sole and cork together, put the shoes upside down on a towel and then hammer those several times. By doing this, you actually fit the cork and the sole better.
However, you already have noticed that the sole is a bit larger than the cork, so obviously, you need to hand trim it with a trimmer according to the cork size. Basically, this part is quite tricky, and please don’t rush to do it. Otherwise, you may end up cutting the cork too, and all your hard work will go in vain! You need to trim the sole slowly in a fine way.
